Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise program that promotes strength, flexibility and balance. This is a low-impact, relaxing form of exercise that is ideal for older individuals. Tai Chi focuses on the mental and spiritual aspects of Chinese martial arts integrated into movement. Individuals will learn warm-up, cool down and 12 introductory forms. Modifications can be made for those who need to remain seated for all or most of the class.

Classes are typically held two times a week and taught by trained leaders.  Tai Chi is offered on a contribution bases for those over the age of 60. For those under 60 the cost is $4.00 per class.

A Matter of Balance Classes

Don’t let the fear of falling slow you down!  If you have concerns about falling that are keeping you from getting out of your house or going where you want to go, A Matter of Balance Classes can help you address your concerns and increase your confidence.  A Matter of Balance is an evidence based fall/injury prevention program that targets older adults who have sustained falls in the past, have limited physical activities due to concerns about falling, and are interested in learning more about flexibility, strength and balance, and how to prevent falls. 

Classes are held twice a week for four weeks and are taught by trained leaders.   Preregistration is required. The workshop fee is $20 per participant. Scholarships are available to persons 60 years of age and older who express financial need.

Better Choices Better Health

Are you dealing with an ongoing health condition?  The 6-week Better Choices Better Health workshop can help you get the support you need and find practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue, and stress.  You’ll discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment options, and learn better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health.

If you have conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, or anxiety, a Better Choices Better Health workshop can help you get back in charge of your life.

Preregistration is required for this 6 week program. Full course cost is $20, which includes a textbook, relaxation tape, and other program materials. Scholarships are available for persons 60 years of age and older who express financial need.

Seniors-In-Motion (SIM)

Get moving with this fun exercise class offered in partnership with the YWCA!  Seniors-In-Motion offers something for everyone, regardless of fitness level.  Meeting twice a week, Seniors-In-Motion will use of light weights, elastic tubing, and small exercise balls to help improve overall strength, flexibility, and balance. A chair will be used for seated and standing support, stretching, and relaxation.

In addition, a weekly wellness workshop will be held to assess your blood pressure, glucose readings, and offer educational information.
